The organisations "Orphan Education Foundation" and "Hilfe für Khao Lak
Tsunamiopfer e.V." are two independant organisations, which are working
together very closely.
The German organisation "Hilfe für Khao Lak
Tsunamiopfer e.V." is raising funds which are completely given to the
"Orphan Education Foundation", which is located in Thailand.
Furthermore it is looking for people who are willing to
support tsunami orphans in the Khao Lak area through godparenthoods.
The "Orphan Education Foundation" is coordinating all the work in
Thailand.
The goal is the personal care for the orphan children. A personal godparenthood should be arranged for every orphan child.
The
godparents are supporting the children with 1.200,- Baht (which is
about 25,- Euro) each per month. This money will be paid out monthly
and without any deductions to the orphans or respectively the families,
where they are living now, by the Thai partner organisation.
The costs for transferring the money and exchange rate losses will be balanced through donations.
Annotation: The Sparkasse Emsland in Germany is not charging us any money transfer costs.
Following Tsunami tragedy about 80% of the families of the school
children of the Pak Weep and the Bang Niang school found that their
houses and vehicles were nearly completely damaged. Luckily, through
the help and kind support of private and government sectors, houses
were being built for the Tsunami victims in a very safe place, but
quite far from schools.
The school children, therefore, face a big
problem of going to and coming from schools. This necessitates Mr.
Watana Mitarawong, principal of Ban Pak Weep school, to set up this
project and present it to the attention of the "Orphan Education
Foundation" and to kindly coordinate with those who would like to help
the children who are in desperate needs of a school bus.
Furthermore,
availability of school bus will greatly help ease the burden in taking
care of their going to school each day and they will have time to do
things for a living. From the initiative ideas of the principal, the
"Orphan Education Foundation" has kindly extended support to the Ban
Bang Niang school as well, by limiting a period of support to the two
schools to 3 years.
First, in the year 2005, the project has
already received financial support for the amount of 110.000 Baht from
the "Friends of Khao Lak" and "Novotel Hotel Bangkok on Siam Square" to
pay for the rent of the school bus.
For the years 2006 and 2007, the "Orphan Education Foundation" is still waiting for help from
kind patrons and those who are kind and willing to support and make fruitful contribution to this worthy project.
Due to the normalisation of the situation in Khao Lak this project was terminated by 31 December 2007.
This project is being set up with a principal aim to help the 130
school children of Ban Pak Weep School and the 70 school children of
Ban Bang Niang School in the provision of luncheon for the children of
both schools.
To begin with, the "Orphan Education Foundation" in conjunction with the "Hilfe für Khao Lak Tsunamiopfer e.V." have already
given a sum of 186.000 baht as a luncheon fund to both schools.
The period of help is being fixed within the limits of 3 years from
2005 to 2007. The main objective of this project is to help support the
children, whose families were heavily affected by the Tsunami disaster
in the provision of luncheon for all of these children, and thus to
ease the tremendous burden of their parents.
The
"Orphan Education Foundation" is still awaiting help and support from
kind patrons and those who would like to make an admirable contribution
to this project.
Due to the normalisation of the situation in Khao Lak this project was finished by 31 December 2007.
Many children in all parts of the country don't have the opportunity to
visit a secondary school or a college to continue their education. The
reason for this circumstance is that their parents are very poor and
that they are living far away from economic centers.
The "Orphan Education Foundation" will chose some children
out of this group, who have excellent school achievements but poor
parents and help them to get a financial support for their education
until university level. This will raise their chances to later get a
job and to make an essential contribution to the economy of their
country.
It is a long-term project which is supporting the children through the arrangement of an education fund.
This project is situated in the district Wang Nam Kewa, Changwat
Nakornratchasima. The motivation of the founder derives from his own
childhood. He had to walk about 15 km daily to school and back.
When he is visiting his home town now he is observing the
same picture like 40 years ago. Nothing has changed. The children still
have to walk or go by bicycle the same long distance to school.
He
is following the idea to build an own school for this village to create
a place for the children where they can learn and thus to provide the
village a better future. Therefore this project is planned very
consciously and goal-oriented. After the school is finished it will be
handed over to the ministry of education for the further direction and
administration.
This project couldn’t be finished due to missing financial means. Unfortunately our financial means were just enough for the projects in the Khao Lak region. And with a distribution of the funds the single projects would have been successful only partially.
